Acoustic Guitar
The acoustic guitar is a modern descendant of the Spanish guitar from Medieval Europe. It is similar to a classical guitar, with some notable differences including steel strings (rather than nylon or gut) a larger body and a thinner neck. The steel strings give the instrument a brighter, metallic sound; while the larger body tends to give the sound greater amplification.
The acoustic guitar produces sound through the use of a soundboard and a resonant cavity. The vibration of the strings is transferred to the soundboard through the bridge. Because the soundboard produces more air movement as it vibrates, it has the effect of increasing the overall volume of the instrument.
The acoustic guitar is a popular instrument in many different genres of music. Country and folk artists are especially fond of them, but many modern singer-songwriters also rely heavily on this instrument. The acoustic has also been used by many blues players over the last century.
