Electric Guitar

The first electric guitar was constructed in the early 20th century. The Gibson “log” is largely considered the first real solid-body electric model. It got its unique name due to the fact that it used a 4” X 4” block of wood as the body, and used homemade pick-ups and hardware.

During the mid-20th century, a radio repairman by the name of Leo Fender forever changed the electric guitar. The “Esquire”, later changed to “Telecaster”, became the first mass-produced electrified guitar. This instrument quickly became a favorite of many country music artists of the time.

Today, the electric guitar permeates nearly all genres of popular music. Country, R&B, Rock ‘n Roll, Reggae and Jazz are all common types of music that have incorporated this versatile instrument. Each passing generation finds new and innovative ways in which to use the instrument.
