Guitar
The guitar is a stringed instrument with a long, storied history. With roots in Medieval Europe, the instrument has steadily grown into one of the most popular musical instruments ever made. Today, virtually every popular genre of music has incorporated its unique aural characteristics.
The modern guitar comes in two main varieties, acoustic and electric. An acoustic guitar amplifies the sound of the vibrating strings through the use of a sound board. This sound board is mounted to the front of the guitar, directly under the strings.
An electric guitar relies on an external source of amplification. The vibration of the strings is transformed into an electric signal through the magnetic pick-ups embedded in the body of the instrument. This signal is then sent to an amplifier, which transfers it back to sound waves.
