Vintage Guitar
Vintage guitar collecting can be a real obsession for some people. While many newer instruments have lots of fancy gadgets and advanced technology, there is something about the sound of a vintage instrument that cannot be easily duplicated. Many collectors are willing to spend thousands of dollars for a well cared for vintage instrument.
The term “vintage guitar” refers to instruments that were made before the 1970’s. While this cut-off point is often considered arbitrary (some people prefer instruments from the 1970’s and 1980’s), many people feel that the craftsmanship previous to the 70’s was vastly superior. However, what qualifies as the best vintage instrument is largely a matter of personal taste.
Early Fenders are often highly sought by many vintage guitar collectors. True guitar aficionados often appreciate the history behind these guitars as much as they do their distinctive sound. Other popular collector guitars include early Gibson and Rickenbacker models as well.
